In addition to weekly classes, Young American Schools of Self-Defense host several special events through out the year.
Tournaments
We just had a our fall session tournament on December 3rd, 2022 at Valley View Middle School in Bloomington, MN. 70 students got compete and show off their skills. Check out our Gallery page for highlights.
Our next tournament with be in May 6th, 2023 with location around Bloomington.
Our tournaments consist of 4 events: Top 3 participants in each events will receive a medal.
– Escapes: where participants demonstrate an escape technique from attack of their choice
– Best Kicks: where participants pick any 3 kicks that are judged on form, speed, and power
– Kata: where participants perform the kata requirements for their current belt rank
– Sparring: where participants compete in point sparring matches with light contact between the chin and belt.
EVERY PARTICIPANT IS CONSIDERED A CHAMPION. EVERY PARTICIPANT RECEIVES A CHAMPION’S TROPHY FOR PARTICIPATION!!!!
Participants will be split out by groups based on age and belt rank. These include age groups 4-6, 7 – 8, 9-11, and 12+ Years old. Belts are split in groups including White Belts only, Yellow to Yellow Green, Green to Purple-Brown, Brown to Red-Black, and Black.
We encourage these to be a family event.
